What conditions can be improved with lymphatic drainage?
Lymphedema
Swelling of a body part due to reduced lymphatic circulation. Often the result of cancer treatment or genetics. Lymphatic drainage helps reroute lymphatic flow around areas of blockage and stimulates reflexive action of the vessels.
Lipidema
In someone with lipedema, the lymphatics may not effectively drain enlarged areas of fatty tissue and fluid accumulates. This leads to progressive swelling and discomfort. Lymphatic drainage can help to improve circulation thereby reducing heaviness, tightness, and pain
Recovery after cosmetic surgery
Many surgeons recommend lymphatic massage after certain cosmetic procedures such as liposuction to decrease recovery time by minimizing swelling and scar formation. Benefits include reduced swelling, reduced pain, improved surgical results, detoxification, and relaxation.
Detox and Wellness
The lymphatic system is an elimination system that removes cellular waste from the body. Manual lymphatic drainage decongests lymphatic pathways and enhances immune function while helping to remove toxins. By stimulating lymph flow and promoting relaxation, manual lymphatic drainage can help improve overall health and well-being.
Venous Insufficiency
Poor circulation often results in swelling, hardening, discomfort, and skin changes in the lower legs. Lymphatic drainage combined with fibrosis massage helps to reduce swelling, soften tissues, and improve blood flow.
Fibromyalgia/Chronic Pain
Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain syndrome characterized by widespread muscular pain and trigger point pain. Lymphatic drainage stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system to reduce stress and promote relaxation. This effect can help ease pain by modulating how pain signals are processed in the brain.
